East Coast Tidal Pilotage Association / Passage notes

Terms of use

These notes are offered for discussion and passage preparation by the East Coast Swatchway & Estuarine Cruising Trust.

Your passage, your decisions

Sandbanks move, marks change and weather alters both the sea and the tide. Nothing on this site is a current chart, official tide table, harbour instruction or assurance that a route is safe. Check authoritative, current sources and make decisions suited to your vessel, crew and conditions.

The calculator is an arithmetic illustration of a simplified tidal cycle. It does not receive live observations, account for local tidal asymmetry, waves, surge, squat or changes in the seabed, or tell you whether a crossing is navigable. Its displayed window is exact only within its stated linear interpolation model, with times rounded to the nearest minute.

Using the material

You may read and print these pages for your own passage planning. Please contact us before republishing substantial text or illustrations. Links to other organisations are provided for reference; their notices and services are maintained by their own operators.

We aim to keep the notes useful but cannot promise that every detail will be current or error-free. Nothing here limits rights or responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded. Questions about the material can be sent to pilotage@ryaeast.org.
